Crews spent much of the day Saturday raising a 150-metre section of Westfield Road near Mellinger Crescent to keep residents from being cut off.
Saint John EMO says gravel was added on top of the existing asphalt to raise the section of roadway by about one foot.
“Engineers have determined the road can be temporarily built up to allow for normal residential traffic until the water levels in the area begin to recede,” reads a statement from SJEMO.

But residents in that area are still being encouraged to evacuate since there’s still a chance they could lose power, water and sewer services.
Randolph Bridge is closed to all traffic and residents who want to evacuate should call 911.
