The Garcelon Civic Center will be a busy spot on Tuesday, May 8th, as the St. Stephen Middle School hosts their 3rd annual Marketplace.
The Marketplace will showcase around a hundred and ten Grade 8 students who have created over seventy businesses. The students will sell their merchandise and donate their profits to a charity of their choice.
Kira Whitter is one of the Grade 8 students taking part, “I’m making duct tape wallets, it’s ‘Taping for Kids’. I’m donating the money to Jennifer Johnson who does the IWK Karnival.”
Victoria Greencorn says her charity of choice will be our local food bank, the Volunteer Center of Charlotte County. “I’m doing ‘Victoria’s Customizable T-Shirts’. I’m going to be making them at the station. I’m going to have a computer set up, you show me the image, I make the shirt, and it should be ready within ten minutes or to pick up later. I’ve been thinking about it for a very long time, trying to be very prepared for it. I’ve been going at it for about three months now.”
Students Michael Gilmore and Alex Russell-Samways paired up for an interesting business idea, they’ve created a video game called “Planet Jumpers”.
Russell-Samways tells us, “We’re going to have a computer set up with a free demo of the video game that you get to play. We also will have copies of the video game on hand for people to buy.”
Gilmore says it took about two and a half months to create their game, mostly out of class, and it’s great for all ages to play.
Other student products include bath bombs, dog bug spray, wooden coasters, and baked goods.
The event will be open from 10am to 2pm Tuesday at the Garcelon Civic Center in St. Stephen.
