Council Approves Two Tenders For West Side Splash Pad

The west side splash pad is one step closer to becoming a reality with Saint John council approving two tenders for a total project cost of just over $600,000.

When the previous tender was put out the lowest bid came in $235,000 over budget after which the city went back to the drawing board and found savings by changing the type of splash pad, reducing its size, using two tender processes instead of one, and more.

Councillor Blake Armstrong believes residents will still be happy with this.

“We had a Rolls Royce, we had the Cadillac water system, we had everything in there,” says Armstrong, “now we have a good splash pad, usable for the summer and like I said, it got approved, everybody’s on board and it’s going to happen.”

Mayor Don Darling says this project that’s been a long time coming.

“These types of investments, not everybody supports them but these are the types of investments that are important to the community and important to families,” says Darling.

“This is lower west, this will have a wide draw with the new school now in the area. This will be something that’ll be very popular I’m sure once it gets up and running.”
