Jim Irving Speaks To Saint John Chamber

Supporting the “home team” will help drive the economy both at the provincial and national level.

That was the main message from the co-CEO of J.D. Irving, who spoke to Saint John Chamber members this week.

Irving says in order for local businesses to succeed, exporters must be successful in global markets, but their success can be impacted by public policy.

He points to a recent Global Competitiveness Report, which finds Canada ranks last when it comes to the burden of government regulation and efficiency of government spending.

“Make no mistake, public policy should hold us all accountable for good performance,” says Irving, “and it also needs to create the best climate to attract investment both in capital and in people.”

Irving says provincial and federal governments need to be more responsive about the impact of public policy.
