Crews Knock Down Fire On Metcalf Street

Saint John fire crews made quick work of a structure fire Saturday night on Metcalf Street.

Platoon Chief Todd Walsh says they got the call shortly before 9 p.m.

“It was a three-storey wood structure building that had smoke showing from the basement apartment,” says Walsh.

“Crews were able to make quick work attacking the fire, knocking it down and stopping it from spreading to the remainder of the upper-level apartments.”

Walsh says there were people inside at the time but they managed to escape, along with a number of family pets.

There’s no word yet on what sparked the fire.
