Children in Lorneville have a beautiful new playground to enjoy and the Community and Recreation Centre is also getting some TLC.
Fundraising efforts to save the playground quickly transitioned to a campaign for a new playground when the City announced plans to decommission extra playgrounds including the 25-year-old structure in Lorneville.
Dana Martin of the Lorneville Playground Restoration Project tells CHSJ News after bottle drives, yard sales and government funding, the playground was installed in December.
“It was just finished about three weeks ago when we had all of the softfall surfacing put in. We are hoping to add some sod and maybe a gazebo.
We don’t have too much shade here so it does get hot” Martin says.

Deputy Mayor Shirley McAlary, Energy and Resource Development Minister Rick Doucet and Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long joined a ribbon cutting on the new playground. The project also includes work on the building with improvements to the roof, windows and doors.
The project also received corporate support from groups like NB Power and others.
