Lots Of Reaction To New Playground In Lorneville

Lorneville residents are pretty happy with their brand new playground and upgrades to the community and recreation centre.

A dedicated community group hosted bottle drives and yard sales and managed to get a combined $60,000 from all three levels of government.

Saint John-Rothesay MP Wayne Long says he spent a lot of time in Lorneville growing up and this announcement means a lot to him.

“It’s not always about the multimillion-dollar announcements,” says Long, “it’s about the announcements that can change a community, make a community better, and make a community more close-knit.”

Long says work at the rec centre will include upgrades to the insulation, windows and door.

MLA Rick Doucet says seeing community members come together to do something for their youth really hits the heart.

“We can do lots of announcements, mega announcements on projects that are very meaningful to the community and economic development,” says Doucet, “but when a community like this comes together and says ‘look, we really need to do something for our youth,’ that really hits home for us.”
