Happy Birthday, Canada!

Today is Canada’s 151st birthday and there’s tons going on in Saint John to mark the occasion.

The People Parade leaves King’s Square at 11 a.m. and heads to the bottom of King Street.

It’ll be followed by a flag raising at City Hall and the official opening ceremonies in the Market Square Atrium.

There will be plenty of entertainment in the Market Square Atrium and on the Boardwalk from noon to midnight.

As well, there will be children’s activities in King’s Square, the City Market, Loyalist Plaza, Market Square and on the Boardwalk.

The celebration wraps up with the massive fireworks grand finale at dusk.

There are also events happening today in Rothesay, Quispamsis, Grand Bay-Westfield, Hampton, Saint Andrews, St. George, St. Stephen and Sussex, just to name a few.

If you’re thinking of heading uptown to check out some of the events, why not take the bus.

Saint John Transit is free all day today and will be operating on a regular Sunday schedule.

You’ll also be able to hit up the mall, grab some groceries, or get a bottle of wine at the liquor store.

Since Canada Day falls on a Sunday, the observed holiday is on Monday, meaning retailers will be working on Sunday and will have to close on Monday.
