Garage Fire In East Saint John

The hot dry weather was no friend to the Saint John firefighters battling a blaze in Lakewood Heights.

The late Thursday afternoon fire at 95 McNamara Drive began in an attached garage.

Our newsroom spoke with Acting Platoon Chief Mike Carr from the scene. We asked him why they needed more help with this one.

” We had two firefighters that had to get assistance from Ambulance New Brunswick due to heat exhaustion so as soon as we started depleting our crews I had to bring in extras,” stated Carr.

He says this was a very labour intensive fire where crews had to do a lot of ripping and tearing to get to the enclosed fire.

The family living there got out safely and the fire investigator is looking at the cause.
