The Community Food Basket Needs Replenishing

The Saint John Community Food Basket at 245 Union Street needs help filling the shelves.

Executive Director John Buchanan tells CHSJ News that 80 per cent of their client base walks to the food basket and the average trip is 3 kilometres and most are carrying their groceries home.

“That’s heavy and most of the folks don’t have access to taxis. We bought some grocery carts from Giant Tiger for $10 each and we sell to our clients for $3”.

Buchanan says right now they need donations of coffee and tea, sugar and tuna and they also accept cash.

The Community Food Basket is open on Wednesday and Friday’s from 1015 am to 1115 am and from 12 pm and 130 pm.
