Computer programming is becoming more important in this digital age which is why a computer lab on wheels is travelling across the province to teach kids about coding.
The non-profit group Canada Learning Code is behind the Code Mobile which urges girls and boys to become builders and not just consumers of technology.
Code Mobile spokesperson Steve Dawson says one of their mottos states the Canadian landscape is now digital and coding is not going anywhere.
“So it’s just one more form of digital literacy that is useful for kids and hopefully helps them down the road to get jobs and make them more prosperous in general,” he says.
Dawson adds if a 10-year-old takes one of their coding workshops today, it could inspire them to take a more in-depth course at age 16 for example and will make coding less intimidating for them.
The technology industry is booming and Code Mobile spokesperson Marcy Walton says we have to keep up and this approach is trying to do just that.
