Camp Glenburn Given All Clear By Public Health

Kids love going to camp but unfortunately for about 92 kids this summer’s experience at the Y’s Camp Glenburn has not been much fun.

An outbreak of the gastrointestinal illness known as Norovirus hit the camp not once but twice, but it is also making its rounds through the region.

The Y’s Shilo Boucher tells our newsroom after the first outbreak, Public Health advised them to do a thorough scrubbing and cleaning of the camp which they did, but she says the virus isn’t coming from the camp.

Boucher says “they did an investigation and advised us that it looked like Norovirus and to basically send kids home and really scrub the camp so we could get rid of it”

“Public Health also identified it wasn’t at camp that someone had actually brought it in”, stated Boucher.

Boucher says they are back open and they will be screening parents about their kid’s health before they arrive and if they have any symptoms of norovirus they will not be allowed to stay.

Public Health does say Norovirus is making the rounds in the greater Saint John Region and the best way to avoid it is to thoroughly wash your hands in warm soapy water.
