Friday Morning Sports For July 14th

The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox made a blockbuster trade with the White Sox sending left handed pitcher Jose Quintana to the Cubs in exchange for top hitting prospect Eloy Jimenez as well as top pitching prospect Dylan Cease. Jimenez is the fifth ranked prospect in baseball. Quintana is 4 and 8 with a 4.49 earned run average this season after going 13 and 12 with a 3.20 E-R-A last year.

The second half of the baseball season resumes tonight with the Red Sox taking on the Yankees at Fenway and the Blue Jays in Detroit.

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow is making some noise in Class A baseball. He hit a walkoff homer to give the St. Lucie Mets a comeback win. The 29 year old Tebow is batting .327 with 10 R-B-I’s and three homers.

In the Canadian Football League, it was Winnipeg over Toronto 33-25. Ryan Lankford had a 105 yard kickoff return.

Michel Landry of the Fredericton Golf Club has a four shot lead after the first round of the New Brunswick Amateur Men’s Golf Championship. Corey McMinniman of Fredericton and Darren Roach of Riverside are tied for second.

Venus Williams has reached the Women’s final at Wimbledon for the 9th time at the age of 37.
