It’s time mental health care was a priority…….That’s the message to the federal and provincial governments from the Canadian Psychological Association in the wake of the health care funding talks breaking down.
Association C-E-O Dr. Karen Cohen says there are gaps beyond long wait lists for treatment. She notes treatment for depression and anxiety by psychotherapies and psychological treatment is not funded by the public health systems.
Dr. Cohen says we know what treatments work but they have to be made more available and a wait time for a young person seeking help for mental health issues from 12 to 18 months doesn’t cut it.
