Special Olympics Athletes From NB And PEI Ready For Competition And To Have Fun

Athletes, their families, coaches and volunteers are in the Hub City over the next four days, for the Special Olympics New Brunswick Summer Games.

The athletes will be competing in a long list of sports, including athletics, soccer, bocce, golf, softball swimming, bowling and power lifting.

Organizing Chair Lorraine LeClair says events have been divided up between the three communities, “Everything is going to be happening on the Universite de Moncton field, Magnetic Hill golf course, in Riverview for power lifting, at Fairlanes for bowling, and at several other venues. We are really excited we have all communities involved and there is something for everyone everywhere.”

LeClair says these Games re really a big deal for the athletes, and for Atlantic Canada as a whole. They serve as a qualifier for the nationals, that will be taking place in Antigonish, Nova Scotia next year.

Opening ceremonies get underway tonight at 6pm, with a parade that starts on Foundry Street and will make its way to Moncton City Hall.
