Tuesday Morning Sports For June 28th

At Euro 2016, in what might be the biggest upset ever in international soccer, Iceland rallied for a 2-1 win over England to advance to the quarter finals against France and Italy knocked out the defending European champions from Spain 2-0. Italy will now play Germany in the quarter finals. After the English loss, the team’s Manager Roy Hodgson announced his resignation.

In the Majors, the pitching woes of the Boston Red Sox continue as they lose 13-7 to Tampa Bay. The Rays had lost 11 in a row…..The Blue Jays lost to Colorado 9-5 despite Edwin Encarnacion hitting two homers…….The Yankees lost to Texas 9-6 as the Rangers scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th…..In the National League East, Washington routed the New York Mets 11-4……Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant became the first major leaguer to hit three homers and two doubles in the same game in the modern era, dating back to 1900 in an 11-8 win over Cincinnati……In other play, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers 5 Pittsburgh 4…..Cleveland 8 Atlanta 3…..Kansas City 6 St. Louis 2…..Philadelphia 8 Arizona 0……Houston 4 Los Angeles Angels 2 and Oakland 8 San Francisco 3.

Former Flyers forward Eric Lindros, who had been passed over six times before, the late Pat Quinn, who coached the Leafs and Canucks, goalie Rogie Vachon, who played for the Montreal Canadiens starting in 1967 and later with the Los Angeles Kings and Russian winger Sergei Makarov will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

It’s now official……Ron MacLean will be back as host of Hockey Night in Canada replacing George Strombolopolous.
