Fredericton native Jake Allen has signed a four year contract extension with the St. Louis Blues, forward Milan Lucic has signed a 7-year contract with the Edmonton Oilers, the Boston Bruins have signed center David Backes to a 5-year deal, Troy Brouwer signed a contract with the Calgary Flames, Alexander Radulov returns to NHL on a one-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs signed forward Matt Martin.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost a heartbreaker in front of their fans on Canada Day losing 2-1 to the Cleveland Indians in 19 innings, the Boston Red Sox beat the LA Angels 5-4 and the New York Yankees fell to the San Diego Padres 7-6.
