Musquash Estuary Marks 10 Years As Marine Protected Area

The preservation of the Musquash Estuary as a Marine Protected Area has been described as a remarkable success story by Federal Government House Leader Dominic LeBlanc.

The 10th anniversary of the designation is being celebrated this weekend with hikes and the Fundy Baykeeper’s 10 kilometer Musquash Paddle with kayaks and canoes available for rental.

Paula Noel of Nature Conservancy says much of the land around Musquash has been protected and it’s thriving with plenty of wildlife including black bears, bobcats and moose. Even land that had been degraded is starting to come back.

The Musquash Estuary is the only Marine Protected Area in the province but the Trudeau Government has set a target of protecting 10 per cent of marine and coastal ecosystems by 2020.
