A Lot Is Riding On The NAFTA Talks

The first round of negotiations to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico is underway and now, the provincial government is reaching out to New Brunswickers to hear your thoughts.

Senior economist with the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, Fred Bergman says it’s no wonder New Brunswick will be keeping a close eye on how the talks go.

He says given the fact that 40,000 jobs are linked to exports in the U.S. there is a lot at stake. Bergman adds it’s too early to say whether or not they should be worried but they should realize the importance of these negotiations.

That amounts to 11 per cent of jobs in the province.
