Saint John police have been asked by the Cherry Brook Zoo’s board of trustees to investigate possible financial irregularities.
Interim Zoo Director Martha McDevitt says in a news release that following a review of financial statements by an outside accountant, they have contacted the police and asked them to investigate the matter.
McDevitt says the zoo has been a mainstay of the Saint John area for many years with tremendous support from the City, business community and residents.
She says the Zoo’s Board of Trustees are committed to putting the zoo on a sound and sustainable footing on the basis of a relationship of trust and transparency.
Because the matter is now with the police, they will not be commenting any further.
