There were plenty of trades in the Majors prior to the deadline……The Toronto Blue Jays traded pitcher Drew Hutchison to Pittsburgh for another pitcher, Francisco Liriano. The Jays also acquired pitcher Scott Feldman from Houston and pitcher Mike Bolsinger from the Los Angeles Dodgers…..The Yankees traded outfielder Carlos Beltran and cash to Texas for three prospects and the New York Mets acquired outfielder Jay Bruce from Cincinnati. The Texas Rangers also acquired catcher Jonathon Lucroy from Milwaukee. Lucroy earlier vetoed a trade to the Cleveland Indians. Despite discussions, the Boston Red Sox were unable to reach a deal with the Chicago White Sox for starting pitcher Chris Sale.
The Jays lost to Houston in 14 innings 2-1 after tying the game in the top of the ninth….Mookie Betts hit a homer in the 9th to give Boston a 2-1 win over Seattle……The Yankees got by the Mets in 10 innings 6-5 and Danny Duffy of the Kansas City Royals pitched eight innings of one hit ball and had a franchise record 16 strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Tampa Bay. In other play, it was Minnesota 12 Cleveland 5…..Chicago Cubs 5 Miami 0….Washington 14 Arizona 1 and San Diego 7 Milwaukee 3.
19 year old Alexandra O’Blenis of Boundary Creek won the Caleb Dunn Memorial 150 at Petty International Speedway, beating out her father, Dave O’Blenis.
