Metered cabs are costing seniors more money to go from Loch Lomand Villa to the mall at McAllister Place.
Lil Bennett, who lives at the Villa, tells us three ladies in her building have each paid 8, 9 and 10 dollars one way for the same trip which is higher than what was charged under the zone system.
Bennett, who worked in the taxi industry for over 40 years, would like to see resumption of a special rate for seniors, many of whom can’t use public transit because of their physical conditions.
She also remembers meters being tried before and then abandoned.
A longtime cab driver in the city has emailed us to say the fare from the Villa to McAllister Place under the zone system was $8 but seniors were charged $7 with the discount.
When Sobeys at Loch Lomond Mall closed, Diamond Taxi offered seniors at the Villa an extra discount of $1 making the fare from the Villa to the mall $6 for many years but with meters, the fare will exceed that.
