Grade One French immersion returns to New Brunswick classrooms this fall and the Gallant government has hired new teachers to support the program.
According to a media release, 15 French immersion teachers have been hired province-wide including five in the Anglophone East School District and three in the Anglophone South School District.
A stronger focus will be placed on literacy in the Grade One curriculum.
Four schools in Riverside-Albert, Doaktown, Miramichi and Campobello Island are also taking part in a two-year French-language pilot project starting in September.
For at least 15 minutes daily, students will learn to speak, read and write in French in literacy, numeracy, art, music and culture.
