The Saint John Police are being criticized for raiding six marijuana dispensaries in the city.
Chair of Maritimers Unite for Medical Marijuana Society Debbie Stultz-Giffin says she was familiar with a few of the dispensaries in Saint John and vouched for how they operated, and said they were operating on a completely therapeutic basis.
She says all of the people who were using the dispensaries were patients who had doctors verify their need for medical marijuana.
Stultz-Giffin calls the raids a huge waste of taxpayers dollars and questions why the police chief said just months ago that the police force had bigger fish to fry in regards to the medical marijuana dispensaries.
She says a number of dispensaries that have been raided across the country usually end up opening back up with charges being dropped soon after.
Whether some dispensaries will open back up remains to be seen and Stultz-Giffin says she wouldn’t be surprised if some did.
Search warrants were executed at Medicinal Grounds on Prince William and Rothesay Avenue, BLW on Simpson Drive, King Canna on Germain and HBB Medical on Rothesay Road and Chesley Drive.
