NB Power Asks Residents To Have Patience

Some residents are spending the day without lights and heat for day 3, and there’s still no guarantee that they will have their power back by the end of the day.

80 per cent of those affected by outages in the Sussex and Moncton area, will see their lights come back on by the end of today. The other 20 per cent will have to wait another day.

NB Power Spokesperson Paul Doucet says they currently have almost 300 crews working to get the repairs done, “Until residents see the crews and get that reassurance that they are working in the neighbourhoods, we know it is going to be frustrating. We are asking folks to continue to be patient and I know that is a tough message, but we are doing everything humanly possible with the resources we have.”

Doucet says when it comes to triaging, and how they are going to marshall their resources, they choose the area that is going to get the most people possible back online as soon as possible, “By necessity, that often pushes us to some of the bigger communities.”

Some residents have complained that their power came back on, but then went out again. Doucet says, |It not uncommon for that to happen. It doesn’t mean that there has been any additional or new damage to the connection. It is more about how we approach our repairs, and sometimes that requires us to reroute.”

Doucet suggests if it does happen, you should give NB Power a call, and let them know, just in case it is another issue that needs to be looked at..

Crews from Hydro Quebec are now assisting, along with other crews from NS Power , who arrived yesterday.”
