UPDATE: Two Dead And Seven In Hospital From Carbon Monoxide After Ice Storm

Premier Brian Gallant has confirmed two deaths as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning in New Brunswick.

Gallant also confirmed that the number of people being treated in hospital has risen to seven.

NB Power continues to get the lights back on to thousands of homes, with the majority now in the northern part of the province.

Gallant says over 200 volunteers are going door-to-door to check on residents and he expects more volunteers on the way.

More than 310 NB Power crews continue to get the lights back on, but the conditions have not been easy with thick ice, downed poles and lines.

Gallant says substations and transmissions lines have been restored, and a helicopter is on hand in case emergency transportation is needed.

President and CEO for NB Power Gaetan Thomas says last week’s ice storm on the Acadian Peninsula was probably the worst in more than 50 years.

Over 3000 without power in the Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe area and also almost 3900 in Kent County.

Over 32,000 are still going without power in New Brunswick.

Crews from Maritime Electic in Prince Edward Island are heading to New Brunswick today to help.

The Premier has requested assistance from the military.
