The New Brunswick Senior Citizens Federation is joining the criticism against the province’s plan to privatize the Extra-Mural program.
President Leonard LeBlanc says dismantling a major government department goes against the “Public Administration” principle on which the Canada Health Act is based.
He believes a large organization like Medavie does not have the same accountability as the government does.
Former Health Minister Victor Boudreau said this isn’t a cost cutting exercise, but is instead about building capacity through collaboration.
LeBlanc says the program has worked well for the last 36 years, and this is a wrong decision for New Brunswickers.
He adds this choice poses a significant threat to our health, and to the economy, warning that should government dismantle the Extra Mural and Telecare program, what is next?
