“We Are Following Our Tax Rules”: New Brunswick Real Estate Association On Proposed Tax Changes

The New Brunswick Real Estate Association is speaking out against the proposed tax changes.

Chris Constantine says they are concerned about the ripple effect of these changes if they are rushed.

“We feel like there hasn’t been proper vetting or proper preparation for the proposed changes, we don’t feel like proper consideration has been given to the impact this is going to have across our economy,” says Constantine.

He says small business owners resent being told they are tax cheats, adding they are following the rules.

“For there to be mass changes in short order without proper consideration, the impact of that really doesn’t appear to have been considered,” says Constantine. “It’s going to affect everybody in Canada and it’s going to have a drastic effect on the economy.”

Constantine says the proposed changes will force business owners to operate differently, which will lead to job losses.

“We’re being told that this affects the top 1% of people,” says Constantine. “It is somewhat offensive to us that they talk about them as loopholes when in reality we are following our tax rules, business owners are operating properly.”

Constantine says many small business owners want to leave a legacy behind, and they feel the rug is being pulled out from under them with these changes.
