Opinion on the city’s Growth Committee about residential development in Tucker Park is divided.
The Conservative MLA for Portland-Simonds, Trevor Holder is opposed and says for development to take place, the terms of the Tucker Park Trust would have to be changed in the Legislature. Holder says the big question would be whether any changes would be in the spirit of the Trust and he doesn’t think what’s being proposed is.
Holder says if the city wants to grow then something should be done to rejuvenate the boarded up buildings in the old North End. He adds, in a roundabout way, something good may emerge from the debate because a lot more attention is being paid to Tucker Park and a committee has now been formed.
