Meteorologist Linda Libby says when it comes to something as potentially dangerous as a tornado, they like to be proactive, “Often with a tornado warning, it’s a matter of getting reports of damage or we’re seeing a signature of rotation on a Doppler radar. Earlier today, we did actually see some indication of rotation of a mesocyclone on the Doppler radar. Obviously, when we come to something as potentially dangerous as a tornado, we are going to be more proactive.”
She says there are specific conditions that are needed to create severe thunderstorms and tornadoes, “Some of the main ingredients that create the conditions necessary for severe thunderstorms, which are also needed to create tornadoes, are usually humid conditions with warm temperatures and that can lead to an unstable atmosphere.”
The storm moved quickly through the region, and the tornado warning was lifted within a half hour.
