Genevieve Lalonde To Compete In Rio On Saturday

A New Brunswicker who is representing Canada at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, will take centre stage tomorrow.

This will be the first day of competition for Genevieve Lalonde, who will compete in the 3000 metre Steeplechase event.

She currently holds the Canadian record in that same event.

Technical Director at Athletics New Brunswick, here Lalonde trains, Gabriel leblanc says Lalonde has had her ups and downs in competition, but she always keep a positive attitude, “At the Cross Country World Championships, she collapsed, and then the same thing happened at the Canada Games one year, and then the next year, she went back and broke the Canadian Record at the Canada Games. She never gives up.””

Leblanc says overall, she is a great athlete with such a great personality who is always willing to give back to the sport.

Lalonde was born in Montreal, but now calls Moncton home.

She will compete tomorrow morning at around 10am, at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
