Riverview Teen To Swim Northumberland Strait In Support of Camp Brigadoon

Last year, 13 year old Brooklyn Douthwright of Riverview, became the youngest person to ever swim across the Northumberland Strait.

This year, her focus shifts to raising as much money as she can to send kids to Camp Brigadoon.

It’s a camp for chronically ill children. $1000 dollars raised will send one child to camp.

She says, “This year I am swimming it more for raising money. Last year I was more focused on just getting across. I’ve raised $2500 so far.”

She will leave Cape Jourimain just before 6am on Sunday, and her swim will end in Borden, PEI.

Last year, the swim took her 4 hours and 10 minutes.

About 62 others will also make the trip and are all a part of the Big Swim event.

Brooklyn says there is one big difference between swimming at the pool, and the Northumberland Strait, “Instead of being able to see the bottom of the pool all the time, you’re looking at nothing. You can occasionally see your hand going in front of you, but that’s all you can see.”
