Genevieve Lalonde of Moncton has reached the Olympic finals in the steeplechase. She finished 4th and broke her own Canadian record which qualified her for the finals later this morning.

21 year old sprinter Andre De Grasse won the bronze medal for Canada in the Olympic 100 metre final. Finishing third to now triple Olympic champion Usain Bolt of Jamaica and American Justin Gatlin who came in second, De Grasse clocked a time of 9.91 seconds……Canada will face France in the quarterfinals in women’s basketball after losing to Spain 73-60.

More than 2 thousand runners took part in Marathon by the Sea with Ryan O’Shea of New Maryland won for the third year in a row.

In the Majors, Troy Tulowitzki and Russell Martin hit back to back homers as the Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 9-2….. Jonathan Schoop hit a three run homer in the ninth inning as the Baltimore Orioles overcame a six run deficit to edge San Francisco 8-7 and remain a half game back of the Jays in the American League East……Mookie Betts hit three home runs and drove in a career high eight runs to power the Boston Red Sox over the Arizona Diamondbacks 16-2. The Red Sox are two back of Toronto. Last night, St. Louis outscored the Chicago Cubs 6-4.
