Common Council To Seek Development of 1671 Sandy Point Road

Saint John Common Council has approved the process to begin the rezoning changes for 1671 Sandy point Road.

The area is currently adjacent to Rockwood Park and that had many councillors concerned about potential impact.

The Growth Committee recommended council look at rezoning to medium density with mixed residential but Councillor Donna Reardon says she wants climate change taken into account with any potential development and any Request For Proposal to go beyond local.

Councillor Gary Sullivan suggested this was the thin edge of a wedge and could lead to even further development of park land in the city.

The positive aspect was that proceeds from the sale of that parcel of land would go back into the infrastructure of Rockwood park.

The vote passed 6-4 and there will be considerable public input along with it going before the Planning Advisory Committee.
