The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League President was at Harbour Station in Saint John on Wednesday to launch the 2017-18 hockey season.
Gilles Courteau says he is looking forward to the rivalries from all the teams as they hit the ice starting with the President’s Cup winners the Saint John Sea Dogs playing the Halifax Mooseheads on Thursday.
Courteau also announced this will be a big year to ensure the Q league players do well with their academics with the league providing over $1,000,000 in scholarships for the very first time.
Courteau says he knows there have been some calling for a change in the leagues name considering there are three teams from the Maritimes but he offered no promises at this time saying it is a work in progress.
Courteau was also asked if he thought Saint John had what it takes to host the Memorial Cup, he replied the City, building and the Sea Dogs organization have the criteria to host a Memorial Cup in the future.
