Relief pitcher Archie Bradley hit a two run triple in the seventh inning, one of four triples by Arizona that sent the Diamondbacks past the Colorado Rockies 11-8 in the National League wildcard game. The D-backs will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers. Late this afternoon, the Boston Red Sox are in Houston with Chris Sale going up against Justin Verlander and tonight the New York Yankees are in Cleveland. Sonny Gray will start for the Yankees against Trevor Bauer.
Alex D’Orio made 34 stops as the Saint John Sea Dogs defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 3-1. Ostap Safin scored his first goal in the “Q”. Alexis Girard and Cole Reginato also scored for Saint John.
The NHL’s regular season got underway with Patrick Marleau scoring twice for the Leafs as Toronto beats Winnipeg 7-2. Nazem Kadri, James van Riemsdyk and William Nylander all scored in a three minute span of the first period. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner also scored for the Leafs……St. Louis got by Pittsburgh in overtime 5-4. Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist for the Penguins……Edmonton shut out Calgary 3-0 with Connor McDavid getting a hat trick and Philadelphia downed San Jose 5-3 with Wayne Simmonds scoring three goals for the Flyers.
