Common Council Sets Public Hearing Date To Discuss Amendments To The Heritage Bylaw

Common Council has set a public hearing date surrounding possible amendments to the heritage bylaw.

The amendment to the bylaw was initiated by the Heritage Development Board and city staff to streamline the heritage permit, and approval process for heritage property owners.

The main goals are to improve clarity and efficiency, enhance customer service and minor house keeping updates.

The service enhancements include quicker turnaround times by allowing a heritage officer to approve certain applications without having to go to the board.

City staff say these changes will impact around 65 percent of the applications, which will lead to them being approved quicker.

Other enhancements include clearly describing when a heritage permit is required and what is needed to make an application.

The second phase will include a complete review of the bylaw in conjunction with the neighbourhood planning initiative in the south central peninsula.

Staff will present more details on the proposed amendments during the public meeting that will be held on March 6th.
