You’re paying less for food now than you were a year ago even though inflation rose by 2.1% on a year to year basis in January.
Stats Canada reports you paid 2.1% less for food last month than what you were in January of last year.
The index that measures food bought in stores went down by 4% year over year with the price of fresh vegetables decreasing by 15 and a half per cent, fresh fruit by 10.8% and even meat by 1.7%.
The natural gas index increased by 15.6% and fuel oil prices rose 18.3% in the 12 months to January. The cost of having a roof over your head rose by 2.4 per cent.
