The Major League playoff game between Washington and the Chicago Cubs was rained out. They will play game 4 of that series late this afternoon with Tanner Roark starting for the Nationals against Jake Arrieta for the Cubs who lead the series 2 games to 1……Tonight, the New York Yankees are in Cleveland for the decider in that series. C-C Sabathia will start for New York against Corey Kluber for Cleveland.
In the NHL, Chicago downed Montreal 3-1 as Corey Crawford made 41 saves. Alex DeBrincat scored his first goal in the NHL and assisted on another for the Blackhawks….Las Vegas, under former Sea Dog coach Gerard Gallant, played its home opener, honouring the victims and first responders in the recent mass shooting and improved to 3 and 0 after a 5-2 win over Arizona….St. Louis improved to 4 and 0 after a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers with Carter Hutton in goal….Elsewhere, it was Dallas 4 Detroit 2…..Ottawa 3 Vancouver 2 in a shootout…Nashville 6 Philadelphia 5 and Columbus 2 Carolina 1 in overtime.
The Pittsburgh Penguins were at the White House where U.S. President Donald Trump called them “true champions and incredible patriots”.
The Harbour View High Junior Varsity boys soccer team continued its winning streak, defeating Saint John High 4-3.
The men’s U.S. soccer team was knocked out of contention for next year’s World Cup in Russia after losing to Trinidad and Tobago 2-1. France, Argentina and Portugal all have qualified but the Netherlands did not.
