Trudeau Says Improving Trade Deals Benefits Everyone

In Washington, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says NAFTA negotiations are difficult but it’s important to stand up for Canadian jobs.

Trudeau says his optimism towards NAFTA isn’t based on personality or reading political tea leaves.

He believes that are opportunities to significantly improve this trade deal and he says Canada and the United States can work together to bring those benefits to our citizens.

Trudeau says the negotiations are difficult and unpredictable but he believes that President Trump is focused on creating benefits for his citizens like Canada and that positive trade deals are a powerful lever for getting that done. President Trump is indicating he wants a bilateral deal with Canada minus Mexico. There’s a report in Vanity Fair magazine claiming several people close to Trump privately describe him as “unstable” and “unraveling”.
