ONE Change Looking To Get Its Hands On The Former Lorne Middle School

It’s hoped there will soon be some new life put into an old building in Saint John’s north end.

The former Lorne Middle School is vacant and the group ONE Change would sure like to get its hands on it.

Morgan Lanigan says it needs a new roof and some other repairs but other than that a feasibility study shows it’s in pretty good shape.

Lanigan went before common council to tout the benefits of having the former school become part of the Nick Nicolle Community centre, which already uses the school gym saying it won’t be vacant very long.

Lanigan says they already have $150,000 in committments from organizations looking to lease out the space.

Lanigan says the city has already put $3 million into the Nick Nicolle Centre and if the province decides to sell that building to someone else and they lose the gym, he says the city investment will be lost.
