Monday Morning Sports For March 13th

The Saint John Riptide defeated the division leading Halifax Hurricanes 97-95. Darin Mency scored 23 points for the Riptide with Haakim Johnson adding 22. Halifax missed out tying the game when a last second shot went off the rim.

Paul Byron scored twice and added an assist in Montreal’s 4-1 win over Edmonton…..All four of the goals within a six minute span late in the game……Corey Crawford made a season high 42 saves as Chicago doubled up on Minnesota 4-2 to pull within a point of the Wild……The New York Rangers over Detroit 4-1 for their 25th win away from home which leads the NHL……It was Anaheim over Washington 5-2 and San Jose beat Dallas 5-1.

The Brad Gushue rink representing Newfoundland and Labrador won the Brier with the last rock in the final end for a 7-6 win over Kevin Koe of Team Canada.

In Nascar, Martin Truex Jr won the Kobalt 400 in Las Vegas but after the race Kyle Busch went after Joey Logano with both exchanging punches before the fight was broken up.

At the Atlantic Indoor Track and Field Championships……Erin Vringer of Saint John won the bantam 800 metres and Ryan Evans of Saint John captured the junior men’s pentathlon.

At the USports Track and Field Championships in Edmonton, Nick MacMackin of Quispamsis won a silver medal in the 800 metre relay.

In the NBA, it was Boston 100 Chicago 80…….Brooklyn 120 New York 112……Indiana 102 Miami 98……..Portland 110 Phoenix 101……Houston 117 Cleveland 112 and Philadelphia 118 Los Angeles Lakers 116.
