The Saint John Sea Dogs have clinched first overall in the “Q” with a 5-0 victory over the Moncton Wildcats. Finishing in top spot ensures the Sea Dogs will have home ice advantage throughout the 2017 playoffs. Spencer Smallman scored two shorthanded goals for Saint John.
The Sea Dogs have recalled Ian Smallwood from the Maritime Hockey League’s Woodstock Slammers. The 18-year-old defenceman from St. John’s just finished his first season with the Slammers.
In the NHL, Brad Marchand scored his league leading 36th goal of the season as the Boston Bruins defeated Calgary 5-2 to end the Flames’ 10-game winning streak…….Marchand is now tied with Chicago’s Patrick Kane and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid for first in the NHL with 76 points…..Philadelphia shut out Pittsburgh 4-0…..Former Leaf goalie Jonathon Bernier won his fourth straight in Anaheim’s 2-1 win over St. Louis and it was Colorado 3 Detroit 1.
The Saint John Riptide have signed Canadian Alex Campbell for the remainder of the basketball season. Campbell was selected second overall in the first ever All-Canadian Draft this summer by the Windsor Express after playing three seasons for the University of Windsor where he averaged 21.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game in his final season.
