In the NHL, the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 to remain in the thick of the playoff hunt in the Atlantic Division…….The Islanders rallied in the third period for a 3-2 win over the Rangers and Anaheim got by Edmonton 4-3.

At the Canadian Senior Men’s Curling Championship in Fredericton, the Grant Odishaw rink from Curl Moncton leads the pack with a record of 6 and 0 following wins of 5-4 over Nova Scotia and 6-5 over Northern Ontario…….In Women’s play, the Kathy Hicks rink from the Capital Winter Club is 2 and 3 after losing 4-3 to B-C but still made the playoffs.

Team USA won the World Baseball Classic with an 8-0 win over Puerto Rico as Blue Jay starter Marcus Stroman threw six hitless innings.

In the NBA, Russell Westbrook of Oklahoma City became the first player ever in league history to record a triple double with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists while going a perfect 6 for 6 from both the floor and the free throw line in a 122-97 win over Philadelphia.
