Mount Allison University Mourns Death Of Student

Flags remain at half staff this morning at Mount Allison University after the death of a first year student.

A statement from the Vice President of International and student affairs was released to students and on their Facebook page. Kim Meade says they have been in contact with family to extend condolences on behalf of the University and to offer them full support.

Counselling services have also been set up for the students who need it.

The statement also says RCMP who investigated the incident have indicated that foul play is not suspected.

Officers were called to a railway bridge in Sackville over the weekend, after the body of a 20 year old man was found.

Counselling services are available to any student beginning today. Students who would like to access support may contact Anne Comfort at acomfort@mta.ca or 364-2527, or Rev. John Perkin at jperkin@mta.ca or 364-2227.

An informal drop-in centre staffed by counsellors will be set up in the Manning Room, located in the basement of the Chapel, beginning today (3 p.m.-9 p.m.) and continuing Monday and Tuesday (9 a.m.-9 p.m.).

You are also invited to visit the Chapel for quiet, personal reflection, 7 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
