High Winds Disrupting Travel And Closing Schools

The power outages have begun with New Brunswick experiencing windy and rainy weather.

There are just over 49 hundred homes and businesses without power provincewide including 176 in the Kennebecasis Valley, mostly in Browns Flat, Passakeag and Public Landing. There are 750 customers in Charlotte County without electricity.

Estimated restoration times range from 2:30 until 5 this afternoon.

Bay Ferries has let us know the ferry leaving Digby this afternoon at 5 has been cancelled because of the weather and the ferry leaving Saint John tomorrow at 8 in the morning has also been cancelled.

The Kennebecasis Island and Westfield ferries are off their runs because of high winds. A caller to our 648-3000 newsline reports strong winds especially for high sided vehicles while travelling along Highway 7 from Fredericton to Saint John.

Deer Island Community School and Lawrence Park Elementary have closed because of power outages.
