Residents Express Frustration And Disappointment Over Route 114 Repairs

It was a packed house for a meeting in Hillsborough last night to address the issue of repairs to Route 114, after it washed out in early March.

Things were heated at times, as residents expressed theiranger and frustrations to provincial Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Fraser, and other dignitaries.

Residents expressed their disappointment with the provincial government, for turning down an offer to build a temporary bridge for free…that would allow them to be able to travel the road while repairs continued to be done..

But Fraser told them, they couldn’t accept, because they had already awarded a tender for a new bridge, prior to the washout..

Residents also were angered by the deterioration of the detour route, several asking who was going to pay for the repairs to their vehicles….that have been damaged by travelling the route everyday.

One even told the Minister that someone is going to be killed driving that detour everyday because of the state of the road…

Another resident spoke out, telling Fraser, that residents don’t need a Fundy Trail, they need a road to get them to Moncton. Another resident responded by saying we need them both.

Many of the comments on social media during the meeting also asked about access for emergency crews with the washout..

Route 114 is the main route for motorists who are travelling between Fundy and Moncton, and without it, many feel as though they have been cut off. Businesses say they are suffering because of the washout, and they feel repairs are not happening quickly enough.
