Thursday Morning Sports For April 13th

The Saint John Sea Dogs have advanced to the President Cup semifinals after a 7-1 victory over Val-d’Or. Spencer Smallman led the the goal scoring with a hat trick while Simon Bourque added a goal and three assists.

The NHL playoffs are underway……Henrik Lundqvist survived a shaky first period to make 31 saves in the Rangers’ 2-0 win over Montreal….. Brad Marchand broke a tie with 2:33 left and the Boston Bruins who were held without a shot in the second period got by Ottawa 2-1……Pittsburgh got 3 goals in the second period for a 3-1 win over Columbus….Joel Edmundson scored for St. Louis at 17:48 of overtime and Jake Allen made a career high 51 saves as the Blues edged Minnesota 2-1 and Melker Karlsson scored at 3:22 of overtime to give San Jose a 3-2 win over Edmonton.

In basketball, the Saint John Riptide lost in London to the Lightning 124-119. Anthony Anderson led the Riptide in scoring with 31 points.

In the Majors, the Toronto Blue Jays are off to their worst start ever at 1 and 7 after losing to Milwaukee 2-0…..Baltimore hit five homers, including two by Trey Mancini, in a 12-5 win over the Red Sox….Aaron Judge homered for the third straight game as the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 8-4.
