A building at 297 Princess Street has been heavily damaged after an early morning fire that was reported at 1:19.
Extra crews were called to the scene as firefighters worked to reach the fire burning in the walls and ceilings of all three floors and the basement. Fire also could be seen through the roof of the brick building.
It’s believed the building was vacant but Police had to evacuate the adjacent buildings. A dozen or so people were displaced and the Red Cross was called.
40 Saint John Energy customers were left without power because of the fire.
