A Quispamsis-based smart energy company wants to raise awareness of the capabilities and possibilities of solar energy in the Kennebecasis Valley community.
The town gets 35-percent more sunlight than Germany, which has been described as a global solar superpower, and has blazed a trail when it comes to solar energy — meaning Quispamsis has a golden opportunity according to founder of Nex Gen.
Mark McAloon says because of the cost reduction in solar technology, we’ve finally passed the point where we can now produce energy for less than we would pay for it. He says many people may not be aware that NB Power actually lets you feed power back to the grid.
“In order words, you don’t need to have batteries anymore,” McAloon tells CHSJ News.
“You can have a solar panel on your roof, and during the day you’re feeding electricity back to the power grid so your meter is actually running backwards. So at nighttime if you need more energy than you’re producing, you can pull it back from the power grid.”
Nex Gen has proposed to Quispamsis town council that they donate a solar array to be connected to the Arts and culture park, that they host a series of education seminars, and:

“If we can show people the value of going with this clean energy then we can start to set the trend for people to start adopting this technology,” says McAloon.
